I was Head of the Cardiovascular, Diabetes and Nutrition Research Centre of the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) in Kuala Lumpur until my retirement in February 2002, after serving for 30 years.
I am an independent nutrition consultant for TES NutriHealth Strategic Consultancy.
I am currently Nutrition Advisor to the Food Safety and Quality Division of the Ministry of Health Malaysia and in that capacity, is Chair person of the following sub-committees: (1) National Codex Sub-Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses; (2) Expert Working Committee on Nutrition, Health Claims and Advertisement; and (3) Working Group on Food/Drug Interphase products; and member of the National Advisory Committee on Food Regulations. I am also a member of the National Coordinating Committee on Food and Nutrition.
I am also President of the Nutrition Society of Malaysia. I am also a member of the Board of Scientific Directors of the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) (Southeast Asia Region) and member of the Board of Trustees of International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI).
I have written some 150 scientific articles and papers and made over 200 presentations on various aspects of food and nutrition in seminars and conferences within and outside the country. I have a regular column, NutriScene, in The Star.
